Without the efforts of our incredible Habitat for Humanity of Greater Garland volunteers, we could not accomplish our mission of providing affordable housing to families in need. We have opportunities for both individual and groups, home builds, and the ReStore.
Individual Construction Opportunities are primarily held on Saturday’s. If you would like to be added to our individual volunteer email list, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Ages 16+ can help the HFHGG construction crew build and repair homes for local families. No experience or tools needed! Our construction crew will teach you how to safely and correctly complete projects such as demolition, framing, siding installation, dry wall, painting etc.
To ensure the safety of our volunteers and staff, HFHGG will engage groups of a minimum of 5 people to a maximum of 15 people per construction site. Scheduling is dependent on our current New Construction and Critical Repair projects. Groups MUST fill out the Group Volunteer Project Applicationin order to be scheduled by the Volunteer Coordinator. Priority scheduling will be given to sponsors who financially support the project.
We need daily volunteer support at the ReStore. Individuals 14+ are welcome to come volunteer during hours of operation which are Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM until 6 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM. The ReStore is closed on Sunday and Monday. Individuals who volunteer in the ReStore assist the ReStore Manager, Assistant Manager, and core volunteers with activities ranging from greeting customers to helping unload donations. Upon arrival, volunteers will be asked to sign a waiver, read an orientation manual and watch a safety video.
To ensure the safety of our volunteers and staff, HFHGG will engage groups of a minimum of 5 people to a maximum of 10 people at the ReStore. Scheduling is dependent on our current ReStore needs. Groups MUST fill out the Group Volunteer Project Applicationin order to be scheduled by the Volunteer Coordinator. Projects may include but are not limited to: sorting through donations, building pallet racking, arranging sales floor, etc.
We will allow Court Service Requirement (CSR) volunteers at our ReStore as long as the offense does not include theft or any kind of physical crime such as battery or assault. Individuals 14+ ( 14-17 year olds must have adults with them) are welcome to come volunteer during hours of operation which are Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM until 6 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM. The ReStore is closed on Sunday and Monday. Individuals who volunteer in the ReStore assist the ReStore Manager, Assistant Manager, and core volunteers with activities ranging from greeting customers to cleaning and helping unload donations. You must sign in when you arrive at the ReStore and sign out when you leave. A Habitat staff member must initial the Volunteer Sign-In form, to verify your attendance and hours.
Lunch sponsorship allows youth under the age of 14 as well as adults with limited time to serve or a knack for cooking to serve their local community by providing an in-kind donation of a lunch for construction volunteers. Habitat for Humanity relies greatly on the support of volunteers to fulfill our mission. As a small token of our appreciation, we like to provide lunch for volunteers on Saturday’s. The lunches provided can be as simple or as elaborate as the sponsor desires. Examples include: sack lunch (sandwich, chips, and a piece of fruit), pizza, bucket of fried chicken and easy sides, BBQ, etc.
Volunteer photographers provide our affiliate with much needed photos from different perspectives and styles to use to create content we can use to share our story with the community through our website, social media platforms, and printed materials. We invite individuals, amateurs, and professionals to take pictures on our construction site, at our ReStore, and at special events such as wall raising’s or home dedication ceremonies. Individuals are asked to sign the Photo Contract as well as a liability waiver.
Out of concern for the safety of children and due to child labor laws, Habitat of Greater Garland follows a strict Youth Volunteer Policy. While youth under 16 aren’t allowed to volunteer on active construction sites, there are lots of other ways to get involved. There are creative ways youth can volunteer with us! Whether it’s landscaping, planting trees, raising awareness, or providing lunch for volunteers who are building.
