Together we are able to build homes, communities, and hope!
We cannot do what we do without our volunteers!

Without your incredible efforts, we at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Garland would stand no chance in achieving our vision of a community where everyone has a decent, affordable, and safe home to call their own. Your diligent work on the Build Site, in the ReStore, and with our Home Repairs allows us to continue building strength, stability, and self-reliance in Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse.

Below is an overview of all of our current projects and opportunities for volunteers to get involved in. If you would like to sign up for one or more of these opportunities, please scroll to the bottom of the page. There, you can create an account in Civic Champs, our volunteer event calendar and hours tracking system.

We hope to see you soon!

Since its founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has been partnering with families and communities to build homes for those who could otherwise not afford it. In 1993, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Garland became one of the 1,100 affiliates worldwide that share in HFH’s common vision and mission: A world where everyone has a safe, affordable, and decent place to live. In the last 30 years, HFHGG has worked with over 90 families and countless volunteers to bring this vision to life. Together we can change the stigma of affordable housing, and create communities that can rely on one another.

Our Home Repair Program, unlike our Home Build Program, works with existing homes and homeowners in Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse. This program aims to alleviate substandard living conditions, and to preserve the existing affordable housing for our homeowners through critical home repairs. These repairs can give the homeowners the ability to stay in their current home, improve their health, safety, and/or accessibility in their homes, allow them to age in place with dignity, and provide their children a safe place to grow. While many of the projects in this program are funded by grants, not all of them are. Without the help of our volunteers and sponsorships, these unfunded project would not be able to happen!

When you volunteer at a Habitat ReStore, you are helping families build a brighter future! The ReStore not only provides gently-used furniture, appliances, building materials, and home goods at a discounted price, but all of the proceeds made go directly to our affordable Home Build projects. Volunteers work along side our staff, core volunteers, and Habitat homeowners in a variety of ways: greeting and assisting customers, accepting donations, sorting, preparing, and moving items on the sales floor, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and much more!

Court Service Requirement (CSR) volunteers are able to volunteer at our ReStore, as long as they are not completing hours for theft, or any kind of physical crime such as battery or assault.

You must be 18 years or older to volunteer in the store, but experience is not required!
To volunteer as a group, please reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator. Scheduling will dependent on the current need of the store.

Our Restore is open
Monday-Friday 10:00am-6:00pm
and Saturday 9:00am-5:00pm.

Are you a shutter bug? Amateur to professional, we are looking for volunteers to take pictures on our build sites, in our ReStore, and at special events (wall raising, home dedication ceremonies, groundbreakings). Volunteer photographers help give us the ability to share our Habitat story with our community. We love using photos from different perspectives and styles to share our story on our website, social media platforms, and printed materials. Individuals are asked to sign our Photo Contract as well as a liability waiver.

We truly cannot do what we are called to do without out our volunteer community. As a small token of our appreciation, we like to provide lunch for our hardworking volunteers. This is a great opportunity for families, small groups, children under the age of 14, and adults with limited time to serve. Lunch can be as simple or as elaborate as you would like! From sack lunches, take out, and home made meals, you can help be a part of our mission to build community and hope!

Opportunities and dates will be posted as volunteer groups sign up for projects.
For questions, inspiration, and other possible dates, please reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator or check out our Facebook page!
